Bike rental

Explore the area by bike. There are many nice cycling routes in the area. For example, you can cross the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park to Bloemendaal and Zandvoort, via the locks or by ferry to Wijk aan Zee.

Rent one of Basecamp’s bicycles. You can choose between an average bicycle or an e-bike. When booking a Tiny House you can simply add a bicycle. If you can’t figure it out, please contact us by emailing info@basecamp-ijmuiden.nl or call us on +31 20 244 2324.

The Zuid Kennemerland National Park

Discover this incredibly beautiful unspoilt protected dune area by bike or on foot.
In addition, numerous activities such as treasure hunts and excursions are organised. If you are interested in this, you can register via the website.

Blokarting

Also called beach sailing. A must do! Fly over the beach with the wind in your sails. Under the guidance of the Eventmaker‘s team, you have mastered the tricks of the trade in no time. Highly recommended for larger groups, but individuals are also more than welcome. The Eventmaker offers many other super fun beach activities. Fun guaranteed!

Surf

Bunker Route

The Bunker Route starts from Badweg in IJmuiden aan Zee; a 2.5 km long walk that maps an impressive piece of history on a winding shell path. In the coastal area are the heavy artillery and fire control bunkers of the Heerenduin coastal battery and the Olmen anti-aircraft battery from the Second World War. The route offers a beautiful view over the dunes of IJmuiden aan Zee and IJmuiderslag. The special Bunker Route takes visitors past all the impressive bunkers and ends at the Bunker Museum.

Bunker museum

The Bunker Museum IJmuiden is hidden in a corner of the original Coast Artillery position Heerenduinen. From this position, the IJmuiden estuary was defended and with it the access to the port of Amsterdam.
The museum consists of 6 largely underground bunkers. In these bunkers you can feast your eyes on the enormous collection that is on display. This varies from a German canteen to a two-person submarine.
The Bunker Museum is an open-air museum, with five exhibition bunkers. Guided tours are regularly organized, both indoors and outdoors. For more information, visit the museum’s website: www.bunkermuseum.nl.

Fort island IJmuiden

Go on an excursion to Fort Island IJmuiden. This is a 19th century fortification and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the Second World War it was part of the Atlantic Wall. Experienced guides are happy to show you around this imposing building on the public days mentioned. Open one Sunday a month and in high season also one Wednesday a month. Please note, it is not possible to pay by card on the island

IJmuider Sea and port museum

An outing for young and old. Children will not be bored. Various quests have been set out and you can come and go (almost) anywhere. The IJmuider Sea and Harbor Museum shows the history and development of the North Sea Canal and IJmuiden, fishing and maritime activities such as towage, rescue and pilotage and industry in and around IJmuiden. Reservations are required, this can easily be done on the website.

Sauna Ridderrode

Sauna Ridderrode is a wellness world full of stories. Hidden in the wooded dunes of Santpoort-Zuid, next to the ruins of Brederode Castle. Inspired by legends from all over the world. Step into the world of knights and Romans. Walk from the Mediterranean to the far north. Be amazed in every room. Discover the marble Caldarium and the mystical spice temple. Cool off in the ice-cold igloo and then warm yourself again in the buried Maa sauna.

Golf

Golf in the dunes near Zandvoort at The Dunes golf course. A fun challenging course with excellent staff and insanely delicious food. Golf course The Dunes is a typical links course (the only public one in the Netherlands) in the middle of the Zandvoort dune area. It is a track with relatively large height differences with turns down and up. There are some blind holes and the obstacles consist of water, deep pot bunkers, large dune slopes and sometimes unrelenting rough. And then there’s the wind that changes the track from day to day. In short, it is a very varied course where every golfer, beginner or low handicapper, will certainly find a challenge.

Spaarnwoude Recreation Area

Between Haarlem, Hoofddorp and Amsterdam you will find the recreational areas of Spaarnwoude. It is an oasis of green where you can experience everything. For example, you can enjoy walking and cycling through the peat meadow areas, climbing, skiing and paintball. The Big Spotters Hill is located in the Groene Weelde. This pyramid-shaped hill with fantastic views over the Haarlemmermeer is popular for a solid hill training. In summer, the areas are the perfect backdrop for festivals and there is a lot to do at the farm ‘Informatieboerderij Zorgvrij’ all year round.

The ruin of Brederode

Near Santpoort, between IJmuiden and Bloemendaal, lies this imposing ruin of the castle of Brederode. Well worth a visit. In addition to the possibility of a guided tour, there are also various exhibitions and numerous activities are organised. Check the website for current information.
